First Post of the Year.

Howdy New School of Art Fresh-people. This is where the GA's and myself are going to be posting all of the terms and key concepts you will need to know about by the end of the quarter... Because, guess what? You will be tested on this.

The reason we are doing it this way and not having you buy a book is

1. this book is $80 bucks, and we want you to use that money for glue sticks, and paper, and fishing line.

2 most of the things we want to show you, we want to find them. That means I want each of your GA's to be active in finding examples and helping to clarify the terms we will use.

Here is an example...
Alberto Giacometti's Gesture Drawing is closer to what we are asking you to do in the still life work. Some gesture drawing like this one by Fred Villanueva feel more like he is wanting the finished product to look GESTURAL. In a way it is like a T-shirt that looks old, vs. one that just is vintage. The authenticity of the real is much much better!

When we talk about Gesture, we are talking about getting to the true Essence of what is in front of you. The next post will help more.

AND THE THIRD REASON IS....

You live on your computer anyway, and you might check this page after you update your facebook account.

Best of luck in this new year, make sure you get all the art supplies you need, and feel free to leave comments, post issues etc on here. This however is now where you leave a note for your teacher saying you will be missing class. That is just silly!
